SFI breaks down locked union office

Ernakulam: Conflict at Maharaja's College. The union office SFI opened by the college authorities was demolished and opened. SFI activists clashed with Fraternity Union members who questioned this. The union office was closed following the complaint of KSUs.

The KSU Unit Committee had earlier lodged a complaint with the Principal demanding the closure of the Union Office which functioned as the party's office and the clearing of the walls of the SFI including the college gates. According to the new principal, K Srinivasan, legal action has been taken on the complaint and the new union will be opened only after the election. Jayakumar clarified.

The law requires the union office to be closed by May 31. Every day during the working hours of the union, the union office shall be locked and the keys to the office. In Maharajas, however, the union office remains under SFI control all year long. It is not locked and handed over every day.

The KSU has also complained that outsiders stormed the union office, including at night, and brought in political opponents. KSU Unit Committee President CP Priya had already lodged a complaint with the then principal but no action was taken.

The Maharajas have also taken action amidst a government crackdown on the union-centered violence in the university college. The union's office in the front of the college was shut down earlier this morning after class began. The locks, including the flag holes inside, were unlocked. The Principal made the announcement at a meeting of student body representatives.
